“The first duty of an education is to stir up life, but leave it free to develop.”
Dr. Maria Montessori
Choosing a school for your child is an important decision. One of the most important factors in a child’s success at Montessori Children’s Community is the parents’ knowledge of the Montessori Method as well as the commitment to provide this educational experience for their child. We strive to find a “good fit” for the child and the school. Having a clear understanding of our philosophy and programs will ensure a successful admissions process and ultimately happy children with enthusiastic parents.
We have several Open Houses throughout the year and offer private tours of the school and classrooms when necessary. We do encourage you to attend an Open House with your child when possible.
The admissions process is quite easy. Throughout the process, members of the MCC staff will help you to better understand the differences between a traditional education and an individualized Montessori education. By the end of the admissions process, we feel confident that you will feel MCC is the right fit for your child and your family. It is our hope that when you enroll your child that he/she will stay at MCC and complete his/her Montessori education in our Montessori Middle School Program (SMMS – first of its kind in Pittsburgh).
Our rolling admissions process allows students to be admitted throughout the school year when possible. We accept applications throughout the year for the upcoming academic school year and follow a “first come first serve” policy for admittance to our programs. Priority is given to family members of currently students. In the event a classroom is filled, we move your child’s name to a wait list on which we refer to the date that your application was received.
- Schedule an formal visit during which you will observe a classroom in session.
- Submit a completed application with the non-refundable $50 application fee.
- If your child is currently enrolled in school, request to have a teacher recommendation sent to MCC Admissions Department.
- Elementary Students (only)- spend a 1/2 day in the classroom while it is session.
- Admission visit with a teacher and your child to assess readiness for the program.
We follow these guidelines to ensure that all families have information about the school before their child would be considered for acceptance. MCC has a wait list policy. In the event the classroom is , we will hold your application for one year. If a space becomes available we will contact you directly. Letters of acceptance are sent in the mail after the admissions visit and the receipt of teacher recommendations (when applicable).
Montessori Children’s Community welcomes racial, cultural, and religious diversity, and families of every background. We admit students of any race, color, and national origin
